Drum sets are an awesome gift for any young aspiring musician. If you're interested in a drum set for a young friend or son or daughter you can often find pretty good deals on used drum sets in your area. You may need to get some new drum heads or something like that and if you're not comfortable totally dealing with the person selling the kit you can pray and someone along with you who may be those little bit more about drums.
If you're buying a used drum set, you should probably make sure you've got all the hardware you need with it. This includes a bass drum kicker, cymbal stands, and any other ride cymbals or hi-hats you can weasel out of the person selling them. Because, if they had a drum set, and they played drums with any kind of regularity, they probably have cymbals also. The cheapest kind of used drum sets are not electric drum sets. Typically electric drum sets are much more expensive due to their not really wearing out regardless of how long you've had them for. Plus the fact that relatively new phenomenon where drum sets have sort of been around for a long time and their prices are moderated. If you are looking for an electric drum set, you should probably go speak to some people at a music store. Guys at a music store will often tell you the truth of the matter even if you don't hear it. They will probably be as honest with you as anyone else has in a retail environment just because music stores earned their customers through repeat customers, recommendations and just general customer loyalty. If they tell you bad information once they may have lost you forever. So if you're looking for a used drum set, you should not rule out going and some stranger's house, climbing up into their attic, and playing with their skins. Retail drum sets are typically one of a couple of different names: Pearl, Drum Workshop, Tama; if you're unsure about a retail drum sets and mean and if it's worth what you they're asking for it, you should speak to your friend at the music store and ask them what they think a fair price would be for that particular model. If you can take pictures with your digital camera or your phone that's even better idea get a bunch of vantage points and show it to the guys at the music store and they can give you a more accurate price.
