If you’re looking to land a career in the medical profession, you need a few things. Compassion, humanity, a tough stomach, and a medical degree from Columbia all help; but the one identifying characteristic which can get any person into any ER anywhere in the world is a lanyard and some scrubs. (I think a lanyard and the right attire can get you into anywhere; lanyards make you look so official)
When it comes to the scrubs though you may need to raid some medical supplies store to get a proper pair. Scrubs are the clothes that a nurses and surgeons in any clean environment. We’d like to think that all the areas of our hospitals are clean, but…Scrubs are a relatively new fashion as of late 20th century in America. The term to scrubs came from the original place these were worn (surgery) and the task that went along with wearing the garb (“scrubbing in”) Scrubs have become synonymous as a component to hospital attire and the look we associate with all nurses and surgeons. One of the easiest places to get your scrubs is by working at a hospital. While I'm not sure if you need to go and get your own (you probably do) working in a hospital it seemed to me to be the ideal reason for anyone to want to actually go out and purchase a pair of their own scrubs. Scrubs are available from medical supply stores which are often found near hospitals. Cheap scrubs are often able to be gotten by hospital staff; you should ask around before you get your scrubs as to where the best place to procure them would be. Whether you're looking for discounted nursing scrubs or you just want to get your own pair of scrubs you want to be able to get the cheapest pair you can. Probably the actual cheapest pair of scrubs you could ever get would be the hollowly in costume variety. Every season they have male and female nurse scrub hollowing costumes available at any Halloween store. While they're not actual “medical” scrubs they are pretty cheap and they’re a decent facsimile which could still probably get you into any hospital anywhere in the world. The cheapest way to view scrubs is to watch “Scrubs,” the TV show starring Zach Braff on NBC. While he’s definitely not a doctor, the exploits of the crew on that show can add levity for sure.
