Candles have been around for ages as early as 300 bc. They have been made from different forms of fat, tarrow or wax. There are many uses for candles nowadays besides lighting purposes.
The candle has been used in various religions to symbolize meditation, prosperity and enlightenment of the spirit. Because of their uses in Christian faith to represent God, candles were then used as decorations for Christmas trees to symbolize the God’s light given to this world on his day of birth. These were later replaced by the strings of light we see on today’s Christmas trees as they don’t cause the fires that the candles did. In the 18th century candles were used as clocks to tell time with. Time was measured by marks placed on the candles to represent hours. When the candle burned down to a certain mark it meant that it was that hour of time. Modern clocks replaced the candles in some countries in the 20th century.
