There are many types of ammo to choose from for your hunting firearm. The ones you pick should match the game that you intend to hunt if possible to ensure a good shot. Here are some hunting firearm options to choose from.
For the smaller game like squirrels and rabbits, long range rifle ammo should be used. The .17 M2 and the .22 long range ammo options are your best choice. You could also choose the .17 HMR and the .22 WMR ammo cartridges but they’re really only good for the head shots as they can cause too much destruction to the bodies. For the larger game like foxes, coyotes and bobcats there’s the ammo cartridges made for the rugers, magnums, Remington’s, fireballs, carbines and the hornet firearms. Basically any centerfire hunting rifle will work with this size game. For the next size larger game like the deer and antelope, there’s the rifles that use the ammo sectional densities of .210 for small bore rifles, .200 for medium bore rifles and .185 for the big bore rifles. They should have bullet energy levels at impact of around 800 ft. lbs. For the larger game like elk and moose you should use ammo sectional densities of .247 for small bore rifles, .223 for medium bore rifles and .205 for the big bore rifles. They should have a minimum of 1200 ft. lbs. for the bullet energy levels. For the larger dangerous game like the black bear, hunters generally use the deer rifle with the more powerful ammo cartridges. The Ruger M-77RSI with the 2-7x scope is usually the rifle of choice for the black bear hunters. For exotic games in other countries more specialty rifles are used with more powerful ammo such as the ones used in hunting elephants, hippos and rhinos. Anyone using these hunting rifles and ammo need to perform all the safety precautions recommended to ensure safe hunting experience. Always load a rifle with appropriate ammo when you’re at the location that you’re intending to hunt at. Too many accidents can occur if rifles are loaded too far in advance. Only hunt in safe areas where no other animals or people are around to prevent any accidental shootings. Hunting game rifles come in many different types, brands and sizes, so do your research of each type before making your hunting game rifle and ammo purchase. Be sure to use only the recommended ammo for the type of hunting rifle you decide to go with.
